Many patients seeking orthodontic treatment are excited about the
possibility of having their teeth straightened invisibly.  In the last few
years, we have seen a lot of development in the area of the Invisalign
appliance, which is about as close as you can get to invisible braces.

Does Dr. Duong have experience with Invisalign?
Yes.  More so than anyone else in Manteca, actually.  Align
Technology, the company that makes Invisalign, has been consulting
with Dr. Duong for her input into the design of the appliance since
1998.  She has lectured throughout Europe and the United States to
What is Invisalign?
The Invisalign appliance is actually a series of individual appliances that look
like bleaching trays.  Each one moves the teeth 0.25mm closer to their
straight positions.  By wearing 10, 20, or however many your case requires,
the teeth are slowly moved to their final, straight, position.  The trays are
changed every two weeks, but we still see you every six weeks or so.

Does it work?
Yes, if used wisely, and by an orthodontist who understands the appliance, it
works very well.  Although it appears to be very easy to use, it actually
requires a great deal of knowledge about orthodontics and the biology of
tooth movement.

Who can have Invisalign treatment?
Invisalign works very well for people with mild to moderate spacing or
crowding and a relatively well aligned jaw structure.  Large jaw discrepancies,
like overbites, or the need for extractions cannot be treated with Invisalign
appliances alone.  Such cases must be treated with braces or with a
combination of Invisalign and braces.
